Giovanna

Giovanna T.

Bologna (BO) - Emilia Romagna

In the heart of Bologna's historical centre, just down the road from Piazza Maggiore, you will find Cesarina Giovanna's home, a stunning apartment in a beautiful old building. Giovanna's family owned a restaurant, so she grew up surrounded by traditional food and Italian hospitality. "Sitting around the table with good friends and good food allows you to expand your mind, stimulate your curiosity for other people, and create harmony between people."

Discovering the Bolognese tradition

.

The menu chosen by our Cesarina, Giovanna, is a choice that is entirely rooted in the Bolognese tradition. We start with a mortadella and pea flan. For the first course, gramigna, a short pasta served with a sauce made from sausages, which Giovanna prepares starting with a delicate vegetable sauté. As a second course, a delicious Bolognese stew, consisting of a mixture of different meats, and accompanied by soft potatoes.

Finally, torta di riso, a festivity cake par excellence. This sweet made of rice dates back to the second half of the 1400s when, on the festa degli Addobbi (a religious holiday named after the custom of placing decorative hangings over windows), homes were open to all and the parishioners served this specialty to guests and visitors.
