Annamaria

Annamaria C.

Firenze (FI) - Toscana

Annamaria lives in the most authentic part of Florence, the Oltrarno, on the left flank of the Arno river. This Cesarina lives in an elegant apartment at the top of a historic building which overlooks Palazzo Pitti, the residence of the Medici family until the 18th century.

Annamaria has inherited her amazing culinary skills from her mother, aunt and maternal grandmother, who are all excellent cooks. And now she wishes to impart her culinary expertise onto her grandchildren who “have the best time in the kitchen”, so as to carry on the family tradition.

Florence, Hub of the Renaissance and of Flavor

The historic center of Florence is best explored by foot. You can begin at Ponte Vecchio, continue along via dei Guicciardini, and reach the Pitti Palace, a monumental example of innovative renaissance architecture, with its richly decorated halls and the stunning Boboli gardens behind it.

Here, immersed in the art history of Florence, we enter Annamaria’s characteristic apartment in order to taste the typical dishes of Tuscan cuisine, with farm-to-table ingredients and a touch of Southern Italian cooking.

We begin with a selection of typical starters – all delicious – but our favorites are crostini with chicken livers, pork and boar sausages and an assortment of Tuscan pecorino cheeses with homemade jam. Next, our Cesarina serves pici (a thicker, hand rolled version of spaghetti) with beef ragout cooked with vin Santo, a dessert wine. The second course is sumptuous and aesthetic: roasted pork loin with rosemary, which at the end of the cooking process is simmered with Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a fruity and floral wine. The pork is accompanied by a side of potatoes roasted with aromatic herbs.

We end the meal with the dessert: a chocolate and almond pastry scented with orange.
