Dining through Southern Italy with Cesarine

When Joni and her daughter Kelly booked with us, our Culinary Guides had a great time organising a special culinary road trip for their mother-daughter vacation.

The most important part of my job is matching our guests with the perfect host for them. With Joni and Kelly, we had to get it right not once, not twice, but four times! We really enjoyed organising this one.

I think this story is a great example of what makes Cesarine such a special project. Our guests enter into Italian homes as strangers... and leave as friends for life. That's pretty magical!

Elisa: So Joni, tell us about your booking!
Joni: We booked a Cesarine experience in each city we visited, and they were all unique. Our Cesarines were lovely and we were treated like family or close friends in each home. Meeting the Cesarines and their friends and families were the highlight of our trip and we think back on them fondly.

Elisa: Where did your adventure take you?
Joni: Our first Cesarine, Germana, treated us to a Halloween celebration in Naples with her charming friends that included special local apples and pastries among the delicious food she served us.

Our second experience with Rosa and her delightful niece Chiara in Sorrento included delicious fresh octopus and her own homemade limoncello. We got to watch as Rosa out the finishing touches on the dish and she explained how she made it. We felt like family at her table and loved meeting her, her niece, and son.

Our third Cesarina, Antonella, welcomed us to her home with her precious family and we spent the evening enjoying her delicious food and hearing stories of local lore. What a fun and interesting introduction to Palermo. Antonella even went out of her way to find and prepare fresh sardines for me! Again, we were treated like family.

Our last Cesarine, Angela, welcomed us into her beautiful home in a historical district of Catania. Along with her charming son and friend, we enjoyed Angela's delicious regional dishes and local pastries. We had a wonderful discussion of local foods and loved every minute with them.

Elisa: Some people love the idea of Cesarine but decide to “play it safe” by just sticking to restaurants and trattorie. Do you have any advice for them?
Joni: My advice to anyone thinking about booking with Cesarine is… Do it!! It was the highlight of our trip. There was not one restaurant meal that could compare to being served a home cooked meal and sharing it with lovely people.

Elisa: What kind of person would love booking with Cesarine?
Joni: I don’t think there is a single type of person who would book with Cesarine, because there is a Cesarina for every person.

Elisa: We like that answer! Well, I think the final question is… Are you coming back to Italy sometime soon?
Joni: We're going back to Sicily with friends and plan on doing the Cesarine dinners again!
