Hi from Concetta!

Once we pass through the ancient city walls, we enter the historical center of Altamura, set among buildings, churches and the characteristic 'claustri' (small enclosed courtyards). In the streets, the smell of freshly baked bread wafts through the air, bread that is baked in wood ovens in the many bakeries dotting the city. It is definitely worth your while to stop and taste the first European baked good to boast the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) certification, Altamura bread. Just a few steps from the historical town center, we stop at the home of Concetta to sample some of the traditional products from the nearby Murge tableland (a mostly untouched area in Puglia), starting with a Primitivo wine produced by our Cesarina’s family. Concetta’s elegant home is modern but with the occasional piece of strategically placed antique furniture. She loves to entertain for friends who are always made to feel at home, because "dinner (or lunch) with friends is not just about the food." We begin our culinary experience in good company while enjoying the cuisine of Puglia, which has a simplicity that enhances the flavors of the main ingredients. This is the way to experience a new region, not just as simple spectators, but by coming into contact with the local populace’s most authentic aspect: the food.
