Food Tour: discover the best places where to taste the finest local food & wine
I will take you on an authentic journey through flavor, history, and tradition, as we explore the Osmize — a unique custom of our region.
This tradition dates back to the time of Charlemagne, and it was Empress Maria Theresa of Austria who later granted the farmers of Trieste permission to open their homes for a few days each year to sell the surplus of their own products.
Today, just like in the past, only homemade products are served in the osmize: wine, cured meats, cheeses, eggs, preserved vegetables, and homemade desserts. Everything is offered directly on the farms, in rustic, simple settings surrounded by the greenery of the vineyards.
It’s a true step back in time — a joyful, convivial experience where you can taste the land and its traditions.

- Upon our arrival, Giovanni welcomed us to his home with prosecco, water, and snacks. His home has an interesting mix of antique art & furniture and modern appointments. After Giovanni explained and demonstrated how to make tiramisu, ravioli, and spaghetti, he gave us the opportunity to try making each. He was patient and thoughtful. We worked in his kitchen and ate the food that we prepared in his dining room. It was a very hot day, but his home has air conditioning and we were very comfortable. The food was delicious and there was a lot more food than we could eat. He offered wine with the food and limoncello afterwards. The experience was excellent, and we highly recommend it.
- A really enjoyable evening. Giovanni and his wife were wonderful hosts. He was an excellent teacher and the subsequent meal was delicious.
- My thought as I rated 4 stars was that I had hoped for a bit more hands on. We did get a chance to try Giovanni’s tasks, however, briefly. Also, I had requested English and it worked out with some technology but the language barrier did play a role in the end. We did learn pasta but we’re not privy to the filling recipe or the sauce recipes. I suppose that is a technicality. All in all we are very happy that we did this experience.
- What a wonderful fun experience! Highly recommend this! Giovanni was the best teacher and host. He invites you into his home and treats you like family!
- Giovanni was a sensational host, welcomed us warmly into his home. I loved that we had to communicate across the English & Italian language. We have been travelling across Europe for 6 weeks & the spaghetti, ravioli & tiramisu he taught us to make was the best meal we have had, delivered on all promises, a must, Cheers Giovanni
