Explore the city on a captivating walking tour followed by an authentic cooking experience
Experience the real flavors of Sicily with a local food tour in Syracuse.
We’ll begin with a walk through the historic Ortigia Market, the vibrant heart of local life, filled with colorful stalls, seasonal produce, and the irresistible aromas of fresh herbs, cheeses, and seafood. Next, we’ll stroll along Corso Umberto, stopping at “Al Tagliere”, a charming shop full of local Sicilian specialties, and then visit “Gusto”, a small market known for high-quality vegetables, cured meats, and traditional preserves. Our final stop? My home kitchen, where we’ll roll up our sleeves and make fresh pasta together — like garganelli or busiate — from scratch. We’ll finish by preparing a seasonal sauce, enjoying our handmade pasta with a glass of local wine. A true taste of Sicily — full of flavor, sto

- Maria’s class was good. Her apartment was very warm and she eventually turned on the air conditioning . The we made pasta which was good, but the pistachio pesto sauce was out of a jar, not home made which was disappointing. She asked if she could add a person to our private class and we agreed. She added some shrimp to dinner but really didn’t want to clean them and cooked them head an all in oil and garlic, nothing fancy and they were tasteless . The ricotta pie we made for dessert was the best thing. All in all, we had a good time but was very expensive for what we got. Also parking near her apartment was very difficult. We were supposed to get all the recipes and she sent a PDF that wouldn’t open. She sent pictures of some of the recipes but not all which was disappointing
- Our traditional cooking class was a wonderful experience. Maria Rita presented the class in a fun and educational way capturing the taste of true Sicilian cuisine. The experience felt like eating a meal prepared with love between friends. Maria Rita was generous it what was offered as well as opening her home up to make this a truly authentic experience. I highly recommend this class.

- Maria Rita welcomed us into her home and was so gracious. We made her grandmothers recipes that she so fondly shared with us. I will definitely try to replicate when I get home!! Loved the whole experience!
- Maria-Rita is lovely, passionate host. While kneading the dough we chatted while pasta was the optimal solution to feed families in pre-industrial times, what is typical in various regions of Sicily and so on. We prepared and cooked the pasta together. The main dish, excellent sardines, and cannoli was prepared by Maria-Rita. We had a great time and food together.
