Hi from Chiara!

I have no limits in what I cook, whether they are traditional dishes or not, I prefer seasonal fruit and vegetables from my garden and I use a lot of creativity: my dishes must not only be good but must give emotions, be presented in the right containers and must be beautiful to look at!

Chiara served us a wonderful Italian meal on her front porch which she had beautifully decorated in fall theme and colors. Her food was visually stunning and delicious (and plentiful!). Best tiramisu I have ever had. Chiara was extremely welcoming and friendly and had enlisted the help of her cousin to help us communicate. She even contacted us the day before to enquire about any food allergies or dislikes we had so she could develop a menu we would enjoy. Her home was located in an agricultural area which was a welcome change from the hustle, bustle and touristy areas of the cities in the area.

I spent much of yesterday at Chiara’s home in Cornedo Vicentino, and it was an OUTSTANDING experience! I had originally searched for Cesarine opportunities in Vicenza, but was intrigued by Chiara’s self-presentation, namely what she had to say about the cooking “experience.” Well, mine with her was optimal! Following her instructions, I took a local bus directly from Vicenza (no changes of bus), and Chiara met me at the bus station. After a short drive, we were at her place and, more importantly, in her kitchen. We made PIZZAS! Because the process requires letting mixed pizza dough rise for hours—time we didn’t have—she had made some dough ahead of time, in addition to having gone to market to buy all the other local “topping” ingredients. However, she showed me, and then had me show her what she had taught, how to prepare the pizza dough (in Italian it’s called (“pasta”) from scratch (she will use that demo dough later for another bunch of pizzas). So we then worked with her pre-prepared dough, which had been proportioned into five parts (each a future pizza). We did some last-minute kneading, shaped the pizzas, and then added the bakeable ingredients—tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, zucchini, herbs—and popped them in the pizza oven. Ready in a matter of minutes, we removed the pizzas and added the missing ingredients—prosciutto, basil leaves, and olive oil. In advance, Chiara had prepared a printout of the step-by-step process, for me to take home. With members of her endearing family, we sat at table to enjoy our pizzas. One was even set aside for me to take back to my BnB! For dessert, Chiari, her lovely mother, and delightful cousin (a future nuclear physicist), and I strolled their garden, which is the source of many of her farm-to-table ingredients, and picked figs from her fruit trees (along the way, gifting me an enormous pomegranate to take home!). It bears mentioning that the Piccoli Dolomiti serve as a spectacular background for their the residence. Entertained, instructed, fed, and delighted by the company and the setting, I was ready to take the bus back to Vicenza. Chiara and her mother would hear nothing of that option, insisting instead on driving me back. To top off a memorable day, we stopped at Monte Berico outside Vicenza to visit the memorial church (the Virgin had answered the prayers of Vicentini to save them from the plague, and the memorial was their thanks) and view the panorama of the city below … including Palladio’s Rotunda, Thomas Jefferson’s inspiration for Monticello (much appreciated by this native Virginian). In all, one of the richest experiences imaginable, but realized thanks to Chiara and her lovely entourage!
