Hi from Alvaro!

Our Cesarino Alvaro has a special and original culinary history: at the age of 14 he moved to Siena to work as a cook, at the age of 18 he opened his restaurant and at the age of 22, life chose a different path for him. He became Mayor of Rapolano T., then he opened a company and, now that he is retired, he can return to his first love, cooking. “I like to talk about the history of my country and my cuisine, everyone is incredulous about the hidden treasures of this territory, both from a historical and culinary point of view.”

We were fortunate enough to spend the evening cooking with Alvaro and his family in their home in Rapolano Terme ( This was a truly special experience and one that we will never forget. The location being their family home made the experience truly special, we were greeted and welcome with home made cheese and local antipasti’s. The experience involved making a tiramisu and two pasta varieties, Alvaro and his family were very good teachers, very friendly and very funny throughout. Once all the food had been prepared we ate at their dinner table and enjoyed some very good food, great stories, good wine and great home made desert wine. It was an experience that I can’t recommend enough and I am so glad we got to do it! Thank you Alvaro and Family!

This was an absolutely wonderful night! The recipes we cooked were so delicious and we loved the experience of seeing how Italians really cook. Both hosts were very kind and took their time showing us how to cook. We think of this cooking class as our favorite experience we had while in Toscane. And the tiramisu, was the best we had all vacation!
