The course is not suitable for gluten intolerant with the results using gluten free ingredients not successful. Whilst the gluten free intolerance was noted in our booking, as was English speaking, language was a major problem with most of the session relying on google translate this making the process very slow and laborious.

We had the best time with Angela and Vittorio. They were so welcoming, interesting and fun. The trip to the market was a great part of the experience and we learned so many things such as the Italian naming of some of the vegetables (and why), ideas for using them, what should be used in what dish and more. Back at the apartment we got into the cooking and it was such a joyous time. Angela is SO knowledgeable and intuitive with cooking. All questions were happily answered with lots of little extra bits of detail. I loved how Angela got us all fully involved and took such care to teach us properly, praising us along the way which we always felt so good about when we met with Angela's approval!! She was very accommodating around one of our party being gluten intolerant too ensuring she ate the same as us but without any bad effects! And the food was just sublime. Absolutely stunning (OH WOW Angela.. AMAZING!!!). The whole morning was just a fantastic time spent learning, cooking, chatting and having fun with two very lovely people. I cannot recommend this enough. And we all cannot wait to get stuck into making what we learned that day and being able to taste it all again... especially the Bruschetta Cake!

We spent a great evening. Angela made us prepare delicious food. She was very welcoming and nice. She took great care to choose recipes according to our food restrictions. We took great pleasure to eat what we made and drink a very nice sicilian wine. We had a lot of fun.

Cesarina from 2018Location: Catania    Languages: French, Italian, English
Ursino Castle, Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral and black lava elephant, the Roman Theater and the lively fish market are just some of the points of interest that any visitor to Catania must not miss under any circumstances. Here in the 'black' city of lava, situated at the foot of Mount Etna, which emanates its own special fascination, we meet Angela, our Cesarina. Angela welcomes us to her splendid, historical Art Nouveau villa, designed by the famous architect Francesco Fichera, who was also linked to Art Deco.  In this little corner of paradise, surrounded by tall trees and a lush wisteria, Angela warmly welcomes us and tells us her story and her passion for cooking that led her to become a Cesarina. Her memories take her back to her childhood and adolescent years. In the morning, there were those in the kitchen who rolled out dough, those who kneaded dough for biscuits and those who left at 8 o’clock to search for the best quality food. These were women from other regions, who were heirs to their own culinary traditions and secrets, but who were curious and accepting of Sicilian gastronomy. They amused themselves by adding their own small touches from recipes from the north.
