Hi from Angela!

Ursino Castle, Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral and black lava elephant, the Roman Theater and the lively fish market are just some of the points of interest that any visitor to Catania must not miss under any circumstances. Here in the 'black' city of lava, situated at the foot of Mount Etna, which emanates its own special fascination, we meet Angela, our Cesarina. Angela welcomes us to her splendid, historical Art Nouveau villa, designed by the famous architect Francesco Fichera, who was also linked to Art Deco. In this little corner of paradise, surrounded by tall trees and a lush wisteria, Angela warmly welcomes us and tells us her story and her passion for cooking that led her to become a Cesarina. Her memories take her back to her childhood and adolescent years. In the morning, there were those in the kitchen who rolled out dough, those who kneaded dough for biscuits and those who left at 8 o’clock to search for the best quality food. These were women from other regions, who were heirs to their own culinary traditions and secrets, but who were curious and accepting of Sicilian gastronomy. They amused themselves by adding their own small touches from recipes from the north.

Amazing jokes and fun atmosphere, she helped my group throughly till we could cook by ourselves. Her timeless recipes made for 3 beautiful pastas. Great overall experience, I loved to hear all her stories!

Angela was a wonderful cook and teacher. She taught us how to make tiramisu and pasta from scratch. There was a little language barrier but her cooking and techniques spoke for themselves. We ate what we made and it was delicious. Angela’s apartment in Catania was wonderful. She was very personable and she transmitted it through her passion for cooking.

What an amazing cooking experience! Angela was not only very passionate about the cooking but also about the history of the food. We’re happy to have tried authentic Sicilian cuisine and are looking forward to recreate it at home! 10/10

I would give 6 stars if I could :) Angela was very hospitable and showed us valuable techniques of cooking pasta and tiramisu, as well as explaining the history of the dishes with the help of her son. The food was delicious and the company was warm - highly recommended
