Hi from Maria Costanza!

Messina, a beautiful city overlooking the sea, kissed by both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. Its historic center is charming and fascinating: a mix of art, culture and history that make for a truly impressive experience. The visitor’s itinerary includes the discovery of palaces, churches, fountains and, of course, the local gastronomy that contains traces of Greek, Arab and Norman cuisine, making it unique in its kind. Cesarina Maria has us sample the traditional recipes from Messina cuisine, both simple and more elaborate dishes. Her greatest desire is to amaze her guests, which she does thanks to the preparation of true delicacies, an impeccable table setting and by always using one of the most fundamental ingredients in the kitchen, creativity.

We opted to do the street food off Messina, not really nothing what to do expect. We met Maria at her apartment. What a bundle of energy. She drove us all over Messina, making sure we were able to get some gate photo ops. We made it to the town square in time to see the Clock play Ava Maria. We then strolled to a small restaurant serving the best froccacia with the freshest tomatoes and and escarole. Arancini the size of softball stuffed with ground beef and vegetables. And a stuffed pastry called a pitone with escarole and cheese. Everything was amazing. We then strolled further down the street, for a cannoli and gelato. Maria all the time explaining Messina. She teaches a cooking class in her home that if we ever are fortunate enough to visit Messina we’re in. Highly recommend this your with Maria

We loved our market tour and 3 course lunch. Maria was engaging, informative and fun. An excellent host. I would highly recommend this tour. When we met her, she took us immediately to the Messina open market where she bought a few things to bring back to her home where we proceeded to watch (and help) make tiramisu... delicious! Had local wine, bruschetta, homemade ragu with pasta (that Maria had made that very morning) and then the tiramisu. The tour lasted about 3 hours. Our meeting place was at her home, which was about 1 mile from the cruise port.

We had such a wonderful time with Maria, we instantly felt like we were hanging out with friends we had known a long time. Her home is lovely and all of the food was excellent. I can’t wait to go home and try to make my own pasta! This was the most memorable part of our entire trip and we hope to be able to return again someday.

Maria is amazing! She showed us how to make such lovely and delicious pastas and we learnt many new techniques. It was a wonderful way to spend an evening in Messina and I felt that we had such a personal experience from Maria. If you’re thinking about booking this event then please do book it! You will love it! Ed and Kate
