Food Tour: discover the best places where to taste the finest local food & wine

Shared Experience
Your experience
  • Sicilian granita served with brioche
  • Pidoni (fried stuffed turnovers from Messina)
  • Arancino (rice balls that are stuffed, coated with breadcrumbs and deep fried)

Immerse yourself in the local market in the city center, among the characteristic stalls selling fruit, vegetables, cheese, and freshly caught fish, surrounded by an atmosphere of conviviality and friendship that recalls times long past. It will be a true immersion among the merchants, their voices, and their innate cordiality.

From here, we will walk to the most classic of Messina's street foods: granita with brioche, now famous even beyond the city limits. We will then sample the local rotisserie, with pidoni and arancini, and continue our walk through the streets of the city center, where you can experience and breathe in the true essence of the city.

Today was incredible. Welcomed by the husband and daughter who offered to pick us up and drive us back to our cruise ship after. Learning how to make pasta by Stephania was such a memorable experience we felt invited and welcomed, and could taste the love in every meal. We made spaghetti, fettuccine and spinach ravioli. The family, then cooked three separate dishes and presented it to us with love. It was the best pasta we have ever had. Afterwards we were treated with homemade tiramisu. The whole meal was complemented by a delicious Italian wine, and the day could not have been any more perfect. If only everyone could experience this, the world would be a better place having tasted the love with which this family cooks with. I dream of getting to do this again.

I could not have planned a better day than this! Stephania treated us like family. She showed us how she prepared her meals. It was a fabulous trip through the Market. Then the cooking lesson showed us how to cook a true Sicilian meal. The meal was beyond delicious . The flavors were layered so that wonderful tastes were constantly released with every single bite. The ingredients could not have been more fresh. Most importantly Stephania and her family made us feel so welcomed in their home. If you enjoy cooking and appreciate food this is an absolute must on your next visit!

What an amazing time we had with Alibrandi family. The family, food, and overall experience was superb. We can’t recommend this enough. Please know this experience was a reminder that there are good people in this world. The food was amazing and Stefania should open a restaurant.

If you do one thing in Messina, make it this cooking class. My husband and I were welcomed into a family’s home by Stephanie, her daughter, and her husband, and from the moment we walked in we felt like guests they’d known for years. It was just the two of us, which made the whole experience feel wonderfully intimate. We started by making tiramisu together, then rolled fresh pasta dough by hand and turned it into two dishes: a fettuccine and a spinach ravioli. Getting to do it all hands-on, side by side with people who clearly love what they do, was so special. And the food! You can taste that Stephanie cooks with love. After spending time eating our way through Rome and Taormina, this meal was hands down the best of our entire trip. We weren’t sure what to expect going in, and it exceeded every expectation. One tip: come hungry and don’t eat beforehand, because you will leave completely, happily stuffed. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip. If you’re anywhere near Messina, go!

Raised alongside my maternal grandmother, I have nurtured a passion for cooking since I was a child, guided lovingly by my Nonnina and her treasured recipes. I cook to bring back the flavors and aromas of Messinese and Sicilian tradition, ancient yet still alive within me: from pesce stocco alla ghiotta to carefully prepared meat rolls, all made according to the recipes passed down through my family. My home is always open—not only to friends, but also to guests from other countries, with whom I enjoy sharing a chat and preparing together the precious family recipes.
