Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Your experience
- Focaccia
- Tiramisu
Welcome! For me, opening the doors of my home means sharing the history, memories and warmth of genuine Lucanian hospitality.
We’ll get our hands dirty making traditional focaccia with our local durum wheat semolina: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Everyone can top their own focaccia with the region’s finest produce: fresh vegetables, scamorza cheese, artisan cured meats and – why not? – the typical ‘peperone crusco’ and caciocavallo. I’ll then reveal my family treasure: my mother’s tiramisu recipe. Finally, we’ll enjoy a generous traditional starter and raise a glass together with some excellent local wine. An authentic experience that’ll make you feel right at home!

- I had a wonderful time learning to make pasta and tiramisu with Filomena! It was fun and tasty. Her and her family made me feel very welcome. I highly recommend a class with Filomena.
- Filomena is one of this people you like to meet during a trip : positive, gentle and welcoming. We passed an excellent moment with her and her daughter, cooking and chatting about Italy and the Italian way of life. It’s more than just learning Italian cooking, we experienced an immersive italian night with very kind hosts. We highly recommend Filomena. One thing to know : it’s not in Matera but closed to, you just need to go by car or bus.
- We had an amazing experience. Filomina was so helpful to get to her house from the start and the experience was fabulous. Spending time with her and her daughter making two types of pasta that was delicious as well as the tiramisu which I can see making her recipe in the future. She also drove us back to matera after as we missed the bus so went above and beyond!
- My mom and I took a class with Filomena on our first night in Matera and absolutely loved it! The kitchen space was so cute and we got to eat out on her terrace which was just beautiful and such a great way to watch the sunset. Overall the class was incredibly informative and run just beautifully. We made ravioli from scratch, two sauces, and tiramisu which were all incredibly delicious. All of the ingredients were fresh from her own garden and the meat was from a local butcher. She even made her own olive oil from her own olive trees and we got to try her homemade limoncello. She also gave us wine made locally that was probably the best wine I have ever had. Through the class she explained techniques very well, and even had her daughter there to help with English to Italian translations for when it was necessary, but she spoke very good English herself. I have made pasta from scratch a few times at home and found her class to help a lot with some of the smaller technical details, so even if you already know how to make pasta or you are completely new to it this class is still perfect for you! It was also so fun to sit down with people in Italy and have a family dinner and learn about their lives and share about ours. She also took photos of us through the class and sent them to me immediately afterwards as well as the written out recipes. She texted me beforehand to make sure I knew how to get there so she is fantastic at making sure you are set to get there and can answer all of your questions. Overall the experience was phenomenal and not to be missed for a visit to matera. It was one of the best parts of my trip and a memory I will cherish forever.
- Wow, what a wonderful experience with Filomena and Antonella! They welcomed us into their beautiful home and we made bruschetta, two different pastas and tiramisu. The evening was incredibly organized, charming, and absolutely delicious. The recipes were fantastic and they went above and beyond to host us! We came as strangers and left as friends!

The one ingredient that never misses is love—the love I put into preparing and serving each dish, to offer an authentic and unforgettable experience.
