Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Pumpkin, with its intense orange color, immediately brings to mind the colors of autumn. In fact, this is the time of year when it becomes one of my favorite vegetables and takes me back in time to when I used to watch it being cooked at home on the stove in a terracotta pot.

It's just as my mother taught me. In this cooking class, I'll show you some ways to use it in the kitchen: stewed, baked, as a filling for ravioli, or simply fried. Perhaps with the addition of a good appetizer, a good wine, and some local sweets, we'll spend a few happy hours together.

Filomena is one of this people you like to meet during a trip : positive, gentle and welcoming. We passed an excellent moment with her and her daughter, cooking and chatting about Italy and the Italian way of life. It’s more than just learning Italian cooking, we experienced an immersive italian night with very kind hosts. We highly recommend Filomena. One thing to know : it’s not in Matera but closed to, you just need to go by car or bus.

We had an amazing experience. Filomina was so helpful to get to her house from the start and the experience was fabulous. Spending time with her and her daughter making two types of pasta that was delicious as well as the tiramisu which I can see making her recipe in the future. She also drove us back to matera after as we missed the bus so went above and beyond!

My mom and I took a class with Filomena on our first night in Matera and absolutely loved it! The kitchen space was so cute and we got to eat out on her terrace which was just beautiful and such a great way to watch the sunset. Overall the class was incredibly informative and run just beautifully. We made ravioli from scratch, two sauces, and tiramisu which were all incredibly delicious. All of the ingredients were fresh from her own garden and the meat was from a local butcher. She even made her own olive oil from her own olive trees and we got to try her homemade limoncello. She also gave us wine made locally that was probably the best wine I have ever had. Through the class she explained techniques very well, and even had her daughter there to help with English to Italian translations for when it was necessary, but she spoke very good English herself. I have made pasta from scratch a few times at home and found her class to help a lot with some of the smaller technical details, so even if you already know how to make pasta or you are completely new to it this class is still perfect for you! It was also so fun to sit down with people in Italy and have a family dinner and learn about their lives and share about ours. She also took photos of us through the class and sent them to me immediately afterwards as well as the written out recipes. She texted me beforehand to make sure I knew how to get there so she is fantastic at making sure you are set to get there and can answer all of your questions. Overall the experience was phenomenal and not to be missed for a visit to matera. It was one of the best parts of my trip and a memory I will cherish forever.

Wow, what a wonderful experience with Filomena and Antonella! They welcomed us into their beautiful home and we made bruschetta, two different pastas and tiramisu. The evening was incredibly organized, charming, and absolutely delicious. The recipes were fantastic and they went above and beyond to host us! We came as strangers and left as friends!

In my kitchen, I use only top-quality ingredients, carefully chosen from local producers, and prepared with attention, using the "star" ingredient—our extra virgin olive oil, produced with passion and dedication. I don’t have a single dish that represents me because every day of the year brings a different specialty, created based on the seasonal availability of ingredients and what’s fresh at the moment. The one ingredient that never misses is love—the love I put into preparing and serving each dish, to offer an authentic and unforgettable experience.
