Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Together we will prepare authentic gelo di limone, a traditional Sicilian dessert served at the end of a meal but also perfect for breakfast or a snack. We will pick lemons directly from the tree in the garden and follow the ancient process of soaking and cooking, then decorate the gelo with lemon leaves and pistachios or a delicate sprinkling of cinnamon before leaving it to rest.

While we wait, we will enjoy a moment of conviviality and conversation: in front of the fireplace in winter or in the shade of the trees in summer, we will taste Modica chocolate, homemade bread, toasted almonds, and a sweet Sicilian wine, along with a few surprises that the garden or pantry will provide.

We spent a very enjoyable evening with Isabella who is fun, charming and knowledgeable about all things Modica and Sicilian. Isabella speaks English very well and seems to know everybody in Modica which is good news for a street food evening. Would highly recommend Isabella.

We did a pasta-making session with Isabella and it was one of the most authentic and enjoyable experiences of our trip. Isabella was patient, lovely, and incredibly helpful throughout. She made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal, and we had a really good time in her company. It was lovely to forage from her garden, make fresh pasta from scratch, and meet her family as part of the experience. Nothing felt staged or overly touristy; it felt genuine, warm, and authentic. A really special experience and something we would happily recommend to anyone wanting to do more than just eat Italian food, but actually learn about it and enjoy it in a proper local setting.

Isabella welcomed us into her home and gave us a truly memorable experience. We learnt traditional family recipes, using local ingredients whilst learning about Sicilian culture. I would strongly recommend you add this to your Sicilian bucket list.

Isabella was a great host and teacher at our cooking class last night. The family was very nice and wellcoming us in their home. Isabella was teaching us how to prepare traditional Sicilian food. During our class we also had the opportunity to have a lot of recommandations for places to visit in this part of Sicily. All together a great evening 😊 Andreas and family Copenhagen Denmark

Hi, Isa contacted me in the morning to make sure we knew where we were meeting at 10am. She was very passionate about modica, sicily and wanted to know what we wanted to eat and very much tailored the tour to our choices. An absolutely fabulous experience, great places to eat and Isa was a fantastic host. We learned a great deal about modica and it's traditional foods. I would recommend Isa as she was caring and passionate about the food in modica. Great trip!

My kitchen is truly the heart of the home — it's where my family gathers to celebrate everyday life, traditions, and special moments. It's a bright and welcoming space, filled with memories, books, handcrafted objects, and the scents of Sicily: aromatic herbs, vegetables from our garden, local wines, ceramics, and family photos. We welcome our guests with the flavors of tradition: homemade ricotta ravioli with meat and sausage sauce, sourdough bread made with ancient Sicilian grains, and Modica’s typical street food — such as scacce, scifiteddi, pastieri, and buccatedde — served with our own olives, fresh ricotta from nearby farms, classic arancini, and a special caponata. There’s also a personal touch: Bergamo-style polenta with Sicilian meat sauce — a flavorful mix that tells the story of our family’s journey away from and back to Sicily. Everything is made with local, seasonal, and genuine ingredients — many of which we grow or produce ourselves: stone-ground flours, olive oil from our trees, eggs from our hens, and fresh herbs and vegetables picked straight from our garden. And above all, there’s the love and passion passed down from my mother and grandmother.
