Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Shared Experience
Your experience
  • Ravioli
  • Cassatine (traditional little cakes from Sicily with ricotta cheese)

Discover authentic cow's ricotta, the star of Sicilian cuisine, in this unique culinary experience in which we will use fresh, artisanal ricotta made locally. You will learn how to make traditional ravioli, flaking and kneading the dough by hand with flour made from local ancient grains, and filling them with ricotta flavored with marjoram or enriched with spinach and chard. Ricotta is also the protagonist of a typical dessert, cassatina: a fragrant basket of sweet dough filled with cinnamon-scented ricotta, baked in the oven. A journey through authentic flavors and Sicilian traditions to be experienced with passion.

We spent a very enjoyable evening with Isabella who is fun, charming and knowledgeable about all things Modica and Sicilian. Isabella speaks English very well and seems to know everybody in Modica which is good news for a street food evening. Would highly recommend Isabella.

We did a pasta-making session with Isabella and it was one of the most authentic and enjoyable experiences of our trip. Isabella was patient, lovely, and incredibly helpful throughout. She made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal, and we had a really good time in her company. It was lovely to forage from her garden, make fresh pasta from scratch, and meet her family as part of the experience. Nothing felt staged or overly touristy; it felt genuine, warm, and authentic. A really special experience and something we would happily recommend to anyone wanting to do more than just eat Italian food, but actually learn about it and enjoy it in a proper local setting.

Isabella welcomed us into her home and gave us a truly memorable experience. We learnt traditional family recipes, using local ingredients whilst learning about Sicilian culture. I would strongly recommend you add this to your Sicilian bucket list.

This is the best thing we have done during our week in Sicily. Isabella and her family were wonderful hosts cooking and demonstrating how to make ravioli. We also ate antipasto, scaccia, a sausage dish and a lemon jelly dessert. The high quality ingredients were either from their garden or locally sourced and everything was delicious. We really enjoyed the conversation around the table which included learning about the local area, folklore and traditions. We only wish we did this at the start of our week in Sicily so we could take up all of the recommendations. It was a truly special afternoon in a Sicilian family home. Thank you.

My kitchen is truly the heart of the home — it's where my family gathers to celebrate everyday life, traditions, and special moments. It's a bright and welcoming space, filled with memories, books, handcrafted objects, and the scents of Sicily: aromatic herbs, vegetables from our garden, local wines, ceramics, and family photos. We welcome our guests with the flavors of tradition: homemade ricotta ravioli with meat and sausage sauce, sourdough bread made with ancient Sicilian grains, and Modica’s typical street food — such as scacce, scifiteddi, pastieri, and buccatedde — served with our own olives, fresh ricotta from nearby farms, classic arancini, and a special caponata. There’s also a personal touch: Bergamo-style polenta with Sicilian meat sauce — a flavorful mix that tells the story of our family’s journey away from and back to Sicily. Everything is made with local, seasonal, and genuine ingredients — many of which we grow or produce ourselves: stone-ground flours, olive oil from our trees, eggs from our hens, and fresh herbs and vegetables picked straight from our garden. And above all, there’s the love and passion passed down from my mother and grandmother.
