Your experience
  • Venetian cicchetti
  • Bigoli hand made with the press with seasonable vegetable
  • Tiramisu with pasteurized eggs

We will prepare together the typical Veneto pasta: bigoli. It will be fun and unusual to press the dough in the press and get the bigoli out of the bronze die.

We will taste good wine, which is a must in Veneto, in an environment between art, food and nature. You will find a cheerful and artistic environment, surrounded by greenery in front of an artificial canal from the 1300s.

I made a reservation through Viator for a private dinner at a local home in Padua, or so I thought. It was much more. Our host Catia explained that it was a cooking demonstration and dinner. My wife and I love to cook and Catia loves to teach. We had such a wonderful evening discussing the preparation of the food we were to eat, the history of food, and the history of the local region. Catia explained in detail her delicious vegan creations, like egg-free mayonnaise. Appetizers were ricotta and caramelized pear, mozzarella “coach” between bread coated and lightly fried, meatless meatballs, tempura pumpkin with “the mayonnaise”, cashew spread with radicchio, and white polenta with soar sauce typical to the region. Our Primi was pumpkin gnocchi (which we helped cook) shaped like pumpkins with rosemary inserted into the top to look like pumpkins, so clever. The sauce was gorgonzola-based, so delicious. The Secondo was a filo dough base layered with a frittata and a fantastic topping. We finished our evening with a sublime tiramisu. As each course was presented so were the recipes and history of the cuisine. Catia was happy to share her techniques and even allowed us to take a photo of the tiramisu recipe. Her home is warm and inviting. Her artwork is wonderfully displayed throughout. Catia says “We arrive as clients and leave as friends.” We certainly felt that way.

We arrived in Padua that afternoon to stay for a few days. Catia was lovely and well informed about the city. We had a great time exploring a city we had never been to through drink and food.

Catia was an incredible teacher and host! Not only did we make and enjoy an amazing meal, we also learned a lot about the history behind the dishes and the region. We especially enjoyed her use of seasonal ingredients and things grown from her own garden! Catia was so welcoming and wonderful, it truly felt like an evening cooking with a friend.

This evening will be remembered! Catia was the best host we could’ve had. So much experience and enthusiasm, in both the cooking and the history of Italy and its food culture! The food was amazing and we learn a lot, so so grateful!

Cesarina from 2020Location: Selvazzano Dentro    Languages: Italian and English
Catia, our Cesarina, lives on the outskirts of Padua, a city full of treasures to be discovered. Art, culture, history and gastronomy, imposing squares, alleys and shops, nothing is really missing. Even in our Cesarina's home nothing is missing: delicacies that trace the typical Venetian and Paduan flavors, made with raw materials, most of which come from farms in the area.
