Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina
The Sailor’s Crostino is a historic recipe from the Maritime Republic of Genoa.
Traditionally made with galletta — the dry bread sailors took on long sea voyages — it was flavored with garlic, dried herbs, salted anchovies, and freshly caught fish. This simple yet rich preparation is known as Caponada, the original sailor’s crostino. In this cooking experience, I’ll guide you through its preparation using typical ingredients: cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic, fresh Genovese pesto, salted anchovies, Taggiasca olives, tuna belly, capers, and chili pepper. A vegetarian version is also available. Everything is served with Ligurian focaccia, fresh pesto, and a chilled glass of prosecco.

- We have just arrived back home to the US after our trip. I wanted to take a moment to thank Tiziana & Roberto, from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful experience they gave us in their home! It was without a doubt the most beautiful moment of our entire vacation. Our daughter has already bought a gnocchi board, and she has sent me to find her a mortar and pestle of her own. The tiramisu, the pesto, and the gnocchi were all so memorable, that the very day we returned home, she is insisting on preparing this wonderful meal for her friends and family here with us. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for everything. You will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will forever treasure the wonderful memories of the time we spent with you, and Julius Caesar the cat, in your lovely home.
- Amazing, authentic, and immersive experience! My family and I had a wonderful time learning to cook with Tiziana! We made pesto and gnocchi in a beautiful villa in Genova. Tiziana was lovely and made the class so fun for the whole family!
- We had the wonderful pleasure of going to a cooking class at the home of Tiziana and Roberto. It was a fabulous experience and I highly recommend it to anyone. It started at the local Genoa market ( an experience all on its own) and then off to the cooking class. But it was the company that was amazing. We felt at home and like part of the family. An experience we’ll never forget. Thank you for making our trip to Italy that much more special!
- This was a great experience! Tiziana is so warm and kind - plus she's a great teacher. Roberto is a gracious host and was so kind to us. Plus the food was fabulous!! Highly recommended
- Tiziana is a very good cook, chef and Cesarina. She taught us how to make an amazing tiramisu, then pansotti with walnut sauce, very good, and we learned how to make fresh pasta. The focaccia is truly delicious. Thank you very much: a beautiful experience.
