You will be guided through the most evocative culinary traditions of the lagoon. “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved learning how to cook. I learned from my grandmother, who prepared traditional Venetian dishes with infinite wisdom: in fact, my grandparents ran a restaurant for many years, so I have always lived and breathed for making guests feel welcome. I love cooking for my friends and family, and over the years I’ve specialised in Venetian dishes, as they are so varied and full of flavour, a true expression of Venice’s precious and rich history.”Immerse yourself in the captivating atmosphere of the most famous canals in the world, you will have the the opportunity to learn a timeless selection of traditional dishes. We had a fantastic cooking lesson with Barbara in her cosy home in the Dorsoduro district of Venice. After crossing the grand canal, we met her in front of the Church of San Barnaba and spent a great afternoon learning how to make several classic cicchetti using sardines, mushrooms, tomatoes and shrimp from the market. Barbara showed us the secret to the crispiest fried fresh sardines, how to make delicious shrimp saor, tasty bechamel stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta that popped with color, texture and flavor, and these amazingly crisp and light meatballs. All while enjoying local wine and sparkling water. We chose a 3 pm start, which was perfect as the cicchetti filled us up so we skipped dinner, opting to visit the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at San Barnaba, followed by a gondola ride and gelato cones. What a perfect day!

We took the Venetian Cicchetti and Shrimp Risotto with Peas and Zucchini class with Barbara which was very enjoyable! The teaching was hands-on and easy to follow. We learned a lot about the importance of the ingredients and various techniques. The dishes were super delicious and we cannot wait to recreate them at home! We took the cicchetti cooking class with Barbara to learn how to make traditional Venetian appetizers. We had a great time! Rather than a class it felt more like spending some time with a favorite relative learning how to make some of her best recipes. Barbara explained each dish and the possible variations for each of the four appetizers. In addition to guiding us through each step, she had many tips that we are sure to use in the future. We are looking forward to making some of the appetizers we learned how to make with Barbara! We would highly recommend taking any cooking class that she offers.
