Starting from Piazza Bra, we will walk to Castelvecchio, where we will visit the historic pastry shop of the same name. Marta and Michele will welcome us and introduce us to the typical sweets of the Veronese tradition. We will then continue along Corso Cavour towards Porta Borsari. As we walk down the street, we will look up to spot the terrace of Palazzo Melegatti, home to the inventor of Pandoro, adorned with its distinctive stone Pandori. The enticing aroma of freshly baked bread will lead us to the historic De Rossi Bakery. After admiring Piazza delle Erbe, we will head towards my home, but not before stopping at the Antica Bottega del Vino for a taste of tradition. Once we arrive, we will roll up our sleeves and prepare gnocchi, a classic Veronese dish, to enjoy with a glass of wine.

I had a wonderful morning with Michela. She arrived promptly at the meeting point and greeted me warmly. She took me to a traditional patisserie near to the castle, which I wouldn't have found without her local knowledge. She took me to some other traditional Veronese food & drink establishments, explaining the city's history as we walked. After about an hour's tour of the city, we went to her apartment to make the gnocchi. She was very good at explaining and demonstrating each step, and it was easy to pick up the technique. It was a treat to sit at her table & eat together, while we talked more about Italian society & traditions. It was a very pleasant and insightful morning, and I have come away with new knowledge & skills. Very grateful: thank you Michela.

Michela made us feel at home from the minute we walked through the door of her lovely home. She made 3 wonderful dishes which we sat down and shared with her. Very informative cooking demonstration as well. Would highly recommend this and would go back in a heartbeat.

Michela is from Verona, she has always lived in Verona, a city of art and love. Her apartment is a few steps from Piazza Brà, in the city center. The hills with its vineyards, Lake Garda with centuries-old olive trees and the Lessini mountains surround the monuments of a city with magical views. Her passion for cooking is a family legacy. Grandmother Laura and mother Bibi involved grandchildren and children in the preparation of long and short fresh pasta, lasagna, tortellini and tortelli, meat main courses with side dishes and desserts. "In the kitchen I try to convey the value of simplicity, but at the same time I am always ready to experiment with new dishes, mainly using the typical products of the Verona area."
