To experience one of Calabria's most authentic traditions, do not miss the opportunity to savor Christmas "crespelle," known as "crespeddhe." This dish, a symbol of the holidays in Reggio Calabria, ushers in Christmas on December 8. The crespelle are made with a leavened and fried dough, served warm and fragrant, in sweet (with sugar or honey) or savory versions, with fillings such as salted anchovies, 'nduja, baccalà, sun-dried tomatoes, ricotta and caciocavallo cheese. I will guide you through the rituals of "crespedda," and during the rising process you will enjoy a festive aperitif and a good glass of red wine.

We are in Reggio Calabria, where its waterfront is one of the most scenic and beautiful promenades in our peninsula, offering the scent of the sea, views of the unmistakable silhouette of Mount Etna, and the evening sunset over the strait. Just steps from the historic center, we meet Antonella. Our Cesarina welcomes us into her cozy home with a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea. During her cooking classes, Antonella shares typical Calabrian recipes: from pasta rigorously handmade, like "maccheroni al ferretto," bursting with the colors and flavors of the land and sea, to cured meats accompanied by typical preserves of vegetables, eggplants, and other vegetables preserved in oil, and sun-dried tomatoes, ending with traditional desserts.
