Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Shared Experience
Your experience
  • Sfincione
  • Palermo-style cazzilli
  • Grandma Matilde’s “vastasa” salad

Come and discover all the secrets to making the perfect sfincione.

Together we’ll prepare this delicacy, explaining the recipe for authentic Bagherese sfincione step by step. We’ll also have fun making Cazzilli, delicious potato croquettes, and to ‘cleanse’ the palate we’ll finish with Nonna Matilde’s Vastasa salad. Whilst we wait for the dishes to cook, I’ll be delighted to share anecdotes and interesting facts about the recipes and my family, and to treat you to a few pieces played on my harpsichord, introducing you to the fascinating world of Baroque music, which I’ve been immersed in for years.

Giovanni is a wonderful host. Last night, he taught me how to make a traditional pasta dish, as well as a fried cheese and tiramisu. The entire evening was way more than I had hoped for. I would recommend these cooking classes to anyone wanting to momentarily step into the Sicilian way of life. He has a beautiful home that you feel comfortable in and he makes you feel like a special guest. Simone showed up and whipped up an incredible dessert. The food was delicious the wine was good and to top it all off Giovanni played a Baroque song on an instrument I had never seen nor heard of. An evening I will remember for a long time. Thank you for opening your heart and your home to me.

I’m Giovanni a musician from Palermo specializing in Baroque music, with a degree in harpsichord from the Palermo Conservatory. I have always combined music with a passion for art and cooking, inherited from my mother and grandmother. I love preparing traditional Palermitan dishes and sharing convivial moments, paying careful attention to the beauty of the table. I welcome guests in two locations: my city home, an elegant apartment near the English Garden, furnished with antique pieces and my harpsichord, perfect for playing and introducing Baroque music; and my countryside house, a villa with a large garden and a terrace overlooking the city, Monte Pellegrino, and the sea — ideal for dinners surrounded by greenery with beautifully set tables.
