With the arrival of autumn in Sicily, the air fills with enveloping aromas, and the landscapes transform into a mosaic of warm tones: the colors of the Mediterranean autumn warm the heart, and rich flavors guide us through the paths of tradition.
To celebrate this season, I invite you to my home in Catania for a cooking class dedicated entirely to the tastes of autumn. In our culinary journey, we’ll start by preparing bruschetta with Ferla mushrooms, the mushrooms that grow on the slopes of Mount Etna. Then, we’ll move on to fresh pasta: one with pistachio pesto, just like in Bronte, and one stuffed with pumpkin, hazelnuts, and Sicilian pecorino. To finish on a sweet note, a hazelnut tiramisu will delight our palates. I look forward to seeing you in the kitchen!

Both were very patient and explained thoroughly the processes also sharing their knowledge and answering our questions. We finished with eating our products with the family over conversation. We learned how to make several types of pasta, including tortellini, gnocchi, and ravioli with delicious homemade fillings. Fernanda and her sister also shared insights into Sicilian culinary traditions that made us appreciate the culture even more. There was plenty of laughter, amazing food (we ate until we were stuffed!), wine flowing freely, and a sense of warmth and joy that’s hard to put into words. By the end, it felt like we were leaving a family dinner, not a cooking class. If you’re in Catania and want an experience that feels truly personal and local, this is it.
