Cooking class: learn how to cook traditional & innovative Italian recipes from a local Cesarina

Your experience

In Sicily there are also local versions of pizza and focaccia that differ from the regular neapolitan-style pizza in both the dough and the toppings, from one province to another.

In this cooking class you will learn all the secrets to prep a delicious focaccia Messinese. This is a typical baked product from the province of Messina, the city in the Strait, characterized by a thin, crispy dough and topped with Italian curly escarole, tuma sheep cheese, cherry tomatoes and salted anchovies. I will share with you the recipe I learned from my partner's family coming from Messina, a real treat! At the end of the preparation you will taste the focaccia together with a glass of wine or with ice cold beer as tradition dictates.

    Vegetarian option is available.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time. Taught us step by step how to prepare each part of the meal. Then, sat down and ate the meal together. Great conversation, very welcoming and will do it again with Alice.

We got to spend a lovely afternoon together making arancina. We felt very welcome and appreciated all the history they shared with us. Hope to go back someday and make pasta together.

Beautiful experience. I chose the arancini lesson for myself and my mother, and Alice and Francesco were very clear and kind. I will definitely return for other courses. Highly recommended.

We could not have asked for better hosts! Alice and Francesco are extremely knowledgeable and excellent at teaching both cooking techniques and the cultural aspects of Sicilian cuisine. We enjoyed their company along with the delicious meal!

Super friendly and lots of fun! The food was absolutely incredible, and it’s perfect for both Italian and English speakers.

I was passionate about cooking and food since I was a child, accomplices grandmother who loved to cook and the whole family who loves to eat well. I therefore decided to pursue a university career in the field of gastronomy. I have faced a multidisciplinary and holistic path that has treated the world of food at 360 o'clock. I love cooking for my family and for others, starting from the choice of recipes and the selection of ingredients. I like to experiment and I'm particularly passionate about pastry and leavened foods. I do research on ancient cookbooks and asking around, especially older ladies, their family recipes. Sicily, like all Italy, has an invaluable gastronomic heritage, whose recipes and preparations vary from house to house, not only between cities and provinces. This gives the palate the opportunity to enjoy the same traditional dishes with different ingredients, techniques and stories.
