Cooking class in Trastevere on 3 traditional roman recipes

Shared Experience
Your experience

I’m Ofelia, a Cesarina from Rome, with a deep passion for traditional cuisine. Although I was born in Calabria, my family has deep roots in Italy’s cultural and culinary history, which has shaped my way of cooking—a blend of tradition, memories, and love for good food.

I invite you to my home in Trastevere, one of Rome’s most authentic neighborhoods, for a cooking class where we’ll prepare three traditional Roman recipes, from appetizer to dessert. We’ll uncover the secrets of iconic dishes, using genuine ingredients and techniques passed down through generations.

We’ll knead, cook, and share stories together, just like in the kitchens of the past!

We had a wonderful time with Ofelia! She was so kind and informative with all of the steps in making the wonderful meal we cooked with her. She was also extremely attentive to the fact that we had one person in our party with allergies and she modified the menu to accommodate his needs. The ingredients she used were so fresh and the meal we cooked together was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend Ofelia if you are looking for a personal and authentic Rome cooking experience!

My wife and I chose this experience as part of our honeymoon visit to Rome, and it was perfect. Ofelia & her husband greeted us with warm hospitality in their beautiful Trastevere home. She walked us through how to prepare fresh pasta and a summer tiramisu while making very enjoyable conversation. The meal turned out delicious, she is a superb cook. We loved learning about Italian culinary culture, they are so passionate and knowledgeable. These hosts are such a joy to spend time with — we didn’t want to leave! Do yourself a favor and make this a mandatory stop as part of your visit to Rome, you’ll be glad you did.

A gem of an experience and the highlight of our visit to Rome. We learned how to made fresh pasta and Tiramisu, both of which we will make at home. Ofelia is very knowledgeable and she and her husband are wonderful hosts.

You MUST book a cooking class with Ofelia if you are in Rome. Her and her husband Leonardo were so hospitable and instantly made me feel at home in their gorgeous apartment. The carbonara we made was out of this world delicious, and Ofelia provided so many details about the history of Roman cuisine, and this dish in particular. This experience was the absolute highlight of my trip in Rome and I can't recommend taking a cooking class with Ofelia enough!! :)

Ofelia hosted one of our best nights in Italy. Not only the class and the food were amazing but also how comfortable and welcomed she made us feel. Both her and her partner Leonardo sat down with us to chat and enjoy our meal and made us feel like we were part of the family. I highly reccomend Ofelia and her classes.

Mine is a cuisine that starts above all from traditional family recipes. I was born in Calabria, but mine is a family branched out in cultural and consequently also culinary history. A great-grandmother of a Jewish family married to a great-grandfather an aviator American, another who abandoned dancing with the consuls for a marriage with an intellectual of peasant origins, all united with the Calabrian mountain tradition. From the branch of Jewish origins I took the great love for sweet and sour, for fermented recipes and spicy scents, from the noble branch some recipes that I discovered to be relatives of sometimes Sicilian and sometimes Neapolitan cuisine (from the Kingdom of the two Sicilies:), some that I have never happened to find in other houses. I moved to Rome almost twenty years ago to study and I stayed there, here I also assimilated some recipe books from my partner who is a Roman from Trastevere, making my own super recipes rlatives of the Roman tradition, such as the first classics or the Maritozzi, which I often personalize with fillings that bring me and my guests back to Calabria!
